Context of Exodus 12:21
19Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses; for whoever eateth what is leavened — that soul shall be cut off from the assembly of Israel, whether he be a sojourner, or born in the land. 20Ye shall eat nothing leavened: in all your dwellings shall ye eat unleavened bread. And Moses called all the elders of Israel, and said to them, Seize and take yourselves lambs for your families, and kill the passover. 22And take a bunch of hyssop, and dip [it] in the blood that is in the bason, and smear the lintel and the two door-posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning. 23And Jehovah will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he sees the blood on the lintel, and on the two door-posts, Jehovah will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come into your houses to smite [you].

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 21Kill the passover - That is, the lamb, which was called the paschal or passover lamb. The animal that was to be sacrificed on this occasion got the name of the institution itself: thus the word covenant is often put for the sacrifice offered in making the covenant; so the rock was Christ, 1 Corinthians 10:4; bread and wine the body and blood of Christ, Mark 14:22, Mark 14:24. St. Paul copies the expression, 1 Corinthians 5:7; : Christ our passover (that…Read the comment
