Context of 2 Kings 22:5
3And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, [that] the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Jehovah, saying, 4Go up to Hilkijah the high priest, that he may sum up the money which is brought into the house of Jehovah, which the doorkeepers have gathered of the people, and let them give it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of Jehovah; and let them give it to those that do the work in the house of Jehovah, to repair the breaches of the house, 6to the carpenters and the builders and the masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house. 7But no reckoning was made with them of the money that was given into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 5See the marginal reference. The “doers” of the first part of the verse are the contractors, or overseers, who undertook the general superintendence; they are to be distinguished from a lower class of “doers,” the actual laborers, carpenters, and masons of the latter portion of the verse.
