Context of 1 Kings 22:44
42Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Azubah, the daughter of Shilhi. 43And he walked in all the way of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of Jehovah. Only, the high places were not removed: the people offered and burned incense still on the high places. And Jehoshaphat was at peace with the king of Israel. 45And the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might which he shewed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 46And the remainder of the sodomites, which were left in the days of his father Asa, he put away from out of the land.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 44This refers probably to an early period in Jehoshaphat‘s reign - about his eighth or his ninth year - when he closed the long series of wars between the two kingdoms by a formal peace, perhaps at once cemented by a marriage between Jehoram and Athaliah (1 Kings 22:2 note).Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 41-50Verses 41-50 Jehoshaphat's reign appears to have been one of the best, both as to piety and prosperity. He pleased God, and God blessed him.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 43-44Jehoshaphat is remembered as a king who pleased the Lord. But his record was not perfect. He did not remove all the pagan shrines (see 1 Kings 15:14). He also joined with Ahab (1 Kings 22:4, 29–32; 2 Chronicles 19:1–3) and later with Joram (2 Kings 3:4–27).Read the comment
