Context of Psalms 35:4
2Take your shields — large and small — and come to my aid. 3Draw the spear and javelin against my pursuers, and assure me, “I am your deliverance.” Let those who intend to take my life be disgraced and humiliated; let those who plan to harm me be turned back and ashamed. 5Let them be like chaff in the wind, with the angel of the Lord driving them away. 6Let their way be dark and slippery, with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.

Commentaries on Psalms 35:4
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 4Let then be confounded - Let none of their projects or devices against me succeed. Blast all their designs. The imprecations in these verses against enemies are all legitimate. They are not against the souls or eternal welfare of those sinners, but against their schemes and plans for destroying the life of an innocent man; and the holiest Christian may offer up such prayers against his adversaries. If a man aim a blow at another with a design to take away…Read the comment
