Context of Leviticus 27:24
22“If a person consecrates to the Lord a field he has purchased that is not part of his inherited landholding, 23then the priest will calculate for him the amount of the assessment up to the Year of Jubilee, and the person will pay the assessed value on that day as a holy offering to the Lord. In the Year of Jubilee the field will return to the one he bought it from, the original owner. 25All your assessed values will be measured by the standard sanctuary shekel, twenty gerahs to the shekel. 26“But no one can consecrate a firstborn of the livestock, whether an animal from the herd or flock, to the Lord, because a firstborn already belongs to the Lord.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-25Verses 14-25 Our houses, lands, cattle, and all our substance, must be used to the glory of God. It is acceptable to him that a portion be given to support his worship, and to promote his cause. But God would not approve such a degree of zeal as ruined a man's family.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-34This chapter concludes the book by discussing different types of vows. It ends with a rule for redeeming one's tithes (see also chapter Leviticus 25). At certain times, such as emergencies, a person might vow something to God in exchange for answered prayers (see Jonah 2:9). After God answered the prayer, the person might want to ignore the vow. Scripture requires that people vow carefully and then fulfill them (see Leviticus 5:4; Ecclesiastes 5:4–6)…Read the comment

The reason for this remarkable difference was to lay every man under an obligation to redeem the property, or stimulate his…Read the comment
