Context of Jeremiah 12:17
15After I have uprooted them, I will once again have compassion on them and return each one to his inheritance and to his land. 16If they will diligently learn the ways of my people — to swear by my name, ‘As the Lord lives,’ just as they taught my people to swear by Baal — they will be built up among my people. However, if they will not obey, then I will uproot and destroy that nation.” This is the Lord’s declaration.

The sixteenth verse is supposed to be a promise of the conversion of the Gentiles. See Ephesians 2:13-22. From the thirteenth verse to the end is a different discourse, and Dahler supposes it to have been delivered in the seventh or eighth year of the reign of Jehoiakim.Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 14-17Verses 14-17 The Lord would plead the cause of his people against their evil neighbours.
