Context of Deuteronomy 32:32
30How could one pursue a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the Lord had given them up? 31But their “rock” is not like our Rock, as even our enemies concede. For their vine is from the vine of Sodom and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are poisonous; their clusters are bitter. 33Their wine is serpents’ venom, the deadly poison of cobras. 34“Is it not stored up with me, sealed up in my vaults?

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 32For their vine is of the vine of Sodom - The Jews are as wicked and rebellious as the Sodomites; for by the vine the inhabitants of the land are signified; see Isaiah 5:2, Isaiah 5:7. Their grapes - Their actions, are gall and worm-wood-producing nothing but mischief and misery to themselves and others. Their clusters are bitter - Their united exertions, as well as their individual acts, are sin, and only sin, continually. That by vine is meant the…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 26-38Verses 26-38 The idolatry and rebellions of Israel deserved, and the justice of God seemed to demand, that they should be rooted out. But He spared Israel, and continues them still to be living witnesses of the truth of the Bible, and to silence unbelievers. They are preserved for wise and holy purposes and the prophecies give us some idea what those purposes are. The Lord will never disgrace the throne of his glory. It is great wisdom, and will help much…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 32Sodom … Gomorrah: These cities became well-known examples of extreme evil (see Genesis 18:16–19:38). They showed deep moral corruption and rejected God. Because the people refused to turn from their sin, God completely destroyed the cities (see Deuteronomy 29:23). Sodom and Gomorrah became lasting warnings of what happens when people continue in wickedness without repentance.Read the comment
