Context of 2 Kings 25:14
12But the captain of the guards left some of the poorest of the land to be vinedressers and farmers. 13Now the Chaldeans broke into pieces the bronze pillars of the Lord’s temple, the water carts, and the bronze basin, which were in the Lord’s temple, and carried the bronze to Babylon. They also took the pots, shovels, wick trimmers, dishes, and all the bronze articles used in the priests’ service. 15The captain of the guards took away the firepans and sprinkling basins — whatever was gold or silver. 16As for the two pillars, the one basin, and the water carts that Solomon had made for the Lord’s temple, the weight of the bronze of all these articles was beyond measure.

Commentaries on 2 Kings 25:14
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-21Verses 8-21 The city and temple were burnt, and, it is probable, the ark in it. By this, God showed how little he cares for the outward pomp of his worship, when the life and power of religion are neglected. The walls of Jerusalem were thrown down, and the people carried captive to Babylon. The vessels of the temple were carried away. When the things signified were sinned away, what should the signs stand there for? It was righteous with God to deprive…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 13-16The Babylonians dismantled the temple furnishings made by Huram of Tyre and other bronze items (see 1 Kings 7:13–50) for their own use. Transporting these valuable items to Babylon was a major task. They took everything valuable (see also Jeremiah 52:17–23).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 8-188-18. on the seventh day of the month ... came Nebuzar-adan--(compare Jr 52:12). In attempting to reconcile these two passages, it must be supposed either that, though he had set out on the seventh, he did not arrive in Jerusalem till the tenth, or that he did not put his orders in execution till that day. His office as captain of the guard (Ge 37:36; 39:1) called him to execute the awards of justice on criminals; and hence, although not engaged in the…Read the comment
