Context of 1 Kings 7:2
1Solomon completed his entire palace complex after thirteen years of construction. He built the House of the Forest of Lebanon. It was one hundred fifty feet long, seventy-five feet wide, and forty-five feet high on four rows of cedar pillars, with cedar beams on top of the pillars. 3It was paneled above with cedar at the top of the chambers that rested on forty-five pillars, fifteen per row. 4There were three rows of window frames, facing each other in three tiers.

Commentaries on 1 Kings 7:2
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2The house of the forest of Lebanon - It was not built in Lebanon, but is thought to have been on Mount Sion. And why it was called the house of the forest of Lebanon does not appear; probably it was because it was built almost entirely of materials brought from that place. See the following verses.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2Many have supposed that the buildings mentioned in 1 Kings 7:1-2, 1 Kings 7:8, were three entirely distinct and separate buildings. But it is perhaps best to consider the “house” of 1 Kings 7:1 as the palace proper - Solomon‘s own dwelling-house (see 1 Kings 7:8); the house of 1 Kings 7:2, as the state apartments; and the house for Pharaoh‘s daughter as the hareem or zenana; and to regard these three groups of buildings as distinct, though interconnected…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2-5The House of the Forest of Lebanon got its name because it used a lot of cedar wood. It held 300 gold shields (1 Kings 10:16–17) and likely served as both a treasury and an armory (see 1 Kings 12:25–28; Isaiah 22:8). The Egyptian pharaoh Shishak later took the shields as loot (1 Kings 14:27).Read the comment

As difficult is it to decide what was the origin of the name; some supposing it was so called because built on Lebanon; others, that it was in or near Jerusalem, but contained such a…Read the comment
