Context of 1 Kings 6:29
27Then he put the cherubim inside the inner temple. Since their wings were spread out, the first one’s wing touched one wall while the second cherub’s wing touched the other wall, and in the middle of the temple their wings were touching wing to wing. 28He also overlaid the cherubim with gold. He carved all the surrounding temple walls with carved engravings — cherubim, palm trees, and flower blossoms — in the inner and outer sanctuaries. 30He overlaid the temple floor with gold in both the inner and the outer sanctuaries. 31For the entrance of the inner sanctuary, he made olive wood doors. The pillars of the doorposts were five-sided.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 29Palms, cherubs, and flowers - the main decorations of Solomon‘s temple - bear considerable resemblance to the ornamentation of the Assyrians, a circumstance which can scarcely be accidental. - Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 14-35The focus shifts to the inside of the temple. Although the temple site is not mentioned here, the Chronicler identified it as the former threshing floor of Araunah (1 Chronicles 21:18–25; 2 Chronicles 3:1). This site is traditionally believed to be Mount Moriah (Genesis 22:2). Solomon’s Temple was in the northeastern corner of Jerusalem, now known as the "old city." This is the area now associated with the Dome of the Rock.Read the comment
