Context of 1 Kings 6:2
1Solomon began to build the temple for the Lord in the four hundred eightieth year after the Israelites came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of his reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month. The temple that King Solomon built for the Lord was ninety feet long, thirty feet wide, and forty-five feet high. 3The portico in front of the temple sanctuary was thirty feet long extending across the temple’s width, and fifteen feet deep in front of the temple. 4He also made windows with beveled frames for the temple.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2The size of Solomon‘s temple depends upon the true length of the ancient cubit, which is doubtful. It has been estimated as somewhat less than a foot, and again as between 19 and 20 inches, a difference of nearly 8 inches, which would produce a variation of nearly 40 feet in the length of the temple-chamber, and of 46 in that of the entire building. It is worthy of remark that, even according to the highest estimate, Solomon‘s temple was really a small…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2Like the tabernacle before it, the temple (literally house) was where God met with his people. David had gathered materials for its construction (1 Chronicles 22:2–4, 14) and had created plans for the temple, which he gave to Solomon (1 Chronicles 28:11–12). The temple’s floor plan was similar to the tabernacle's but was twice as long and wide, and taller (compare Exodus 26:3, 15–30; 36:26–34).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-41Ki 6:1-4. The Building of Solomon's Temple. 2. the house which king Solomon built for the Lord--The dimensions are given in cubits, which are to be reckoned according to the early standard (2Ch 3:3), or holy cubit (Eze 40:5; 43:13), a handbreadth longer than the common or later one. It is probable that the internal elevation only is here stated.Read the comment
