And they answered, We are the brethren of Ahaziah: and we go down to salute the children of the king and the children of the queen. 14And he said, Take them alive. And they took them alive, and slew them at the pit of the shearing-house, even two and forty men; neither left he any of them. And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him; and he saluted him, and said to him, Is thy heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? So they made him ride in his chariot. 17And when he came to Samaria, he smote all that remained unto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the word of Jehovah, which he spake to Elijah.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 15-28Verses 15-28 Is thine heart right? This is a question we should often put to ourselves. I make a fair profession, have gained a reputation among men, but, is my heart right? Am I sincere with God? Jehonadab owned Jehu in the work, both of revenge and of reformation. An upright heart approves itself to God, and seeks no more than his acceptance; but if we aim at the applause of men, we are upon a false foundation. Whether Jehu looked any further we cannot…Read the comment

While most nomadic Kenites lived in southern Judah, some were in Galilee (Judges 4:17; 5:24). Their opposition to the royal family's unfaithfulness may have led them to support Jehu as a savior and reformer.Read the comment

A person who, from his piety and simple primitive manner of life (Jr 35:1-19), was highly esteemed, and possessed great influence in the country.
