Context of 1 Kings 11:25
23And God raised upanotheradversary unto him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah. 24And he gathered men unto him, and became captain over a troop, when David slew them of Zobah: and they went to Damascus, and dwelt therein, and reigned in Damascus. And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, besides the mischief that Hadad did: and he abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria. 26And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow, he also lifted up his hand against the king. 27And this was the reason why he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breach of the city of David his father.

If against us, he can make us fear even the least, and the very grasshopper shall be a burden. Though they were moved by principles of ambition or revenge, God used them to correct Solomon.Read the comment

He stayed there when Solomon campaigned in Hamath-zobah (2 Chronicles 8:3–4) and eventually became king of Damascus. Like Hadad, Rezon was a persistent enemy of Israel and caused trouble for Solomon.Read the comment

During the war of extermination, which Joab carried on in Edom (2Sa 8:13), this Hadad, of the royal family, a mere boy when rescued from the sword of the ruthless conqueror, was carried into Egypt, hospitably entertained, and became allied with the house of the Egyptian king. In after years, the thought of his native land…Read the comment
