Context of Psalms 54:4
2Hear my prayer, O God; Listen to the words of my mouth. 3For strangers have risen against me And violent men have sought my life; They have not set God before them. Selah. Behold, God is my helper and ally; The Lord is the sustainer of my soul [my upholder]. 5He will pay back the evil to my enemies; In Your faithfulness destroy them. 6With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to You; I will give thanks and praise Your name, O Lord, for it is good.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 4Behold, God is mine helper - This would naturally occur to him when he saw that Saul was obliged to leave the pursuit, and go to defend his territories, when he was on the very point of seizing him. God, whose providence is ever watchful, had foreseen this danger and stirred up the Philistines to make this inroad just at the time in which Saul and his army were about to lay hands on David.
