Context of Psalms 42:9
7Deep calls to deep at the [thundering] sound of Your waterfalls; All Your breakers and Your waves have rolled over me. 8Yet the Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song will be with me, A prayer to the God of my life. I will say to God my rock, “Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?” 10As a crushing of my bones [with a sword], my adversaries taunt me, While they say continually to me, “Where is your God?” 11Why are you in despair, O my soul? Why have you become restless and disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 9I will say unto God my rock - God, my Fortress and Support. Why hast thou forgotten me? - This and the following verse is badly pointed in our Bibles: "Why go I mourning as with a sword in my bones because of the oppression of the enemy? Mine enemies reproach me daily, while they say unto me, Where is thy God?" See on Psalm 42:3; (note). Their reproaches are to my soul as cutting and severe as a sword thrust into my body, and separating between my bones…Read the comment

David regards the Divine favour as the fountain of all the good he looked for. In the Saviour's name let us hope and pray. One word from him will calm every…Read the comment
