Context of Psalms 107:29
27They staggered and trembled like a drunken man, And were at their wits’ end [all their wisdom was useless]. 28Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, And He brought them out of their distresses. He hushed the storm to a gentle whisper, So that the waves of the sea were still. 30Then they were glad because of the calm, And He guided them to their desired haven (harbor). 31Let them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness, And for His wonderful acts to the children of men!

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 29He maketh the storm a calm - God does this, and God only can do it. The fact, therefore, that Jesus did it Matthew 8:26, proves that he was divine. This is literally, “He places the tempest to silence.” So that the waves thereof are still - Are lulled. The ocean ceases to be agitated, and the surface becomes smooth. Yet, in answer to their cries, the Lord turns their…Read the comment
