Context of Job 19:26
24That with an iron stylus and [molten] lead They were engraved in the rock forever! 25For I know that my Redeemer and Vindicator lives, And at the last He will take His stand upon the earth. Even after my [mortal] skin is destroyed [by death], Yet from my [immortal] flesh I will see God, 27Whom I, even I, will see for myself, And my eyes will see Him and not another! My heart faints within me. 28If you say, ‘How shall we [continue to] persecute him?’ And ‘What pretext for a case against him can we find [since we claim the root of these afflictions is found in him]?’

They destroy this - not body. זאת נקפו nikkephu zoth, they - diseases and affliction, destroy This wretched composition of misery and corruption. - Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 26And though - Margin, Or, after I shall awake, though this body be destroyed, yet out of my flesh shall I see God. This verse has given not less perplexity than the preceding. Noyes renders it, And though with this skin this body be wasted away, Yet in my flesh shall I see God. Dr. Good renders it, And, after the disease hath destroyed my skin, That in my flesh I shall see God. Rosenmuller explains it, “And when after my skin (scil. is consumed and…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 23-29Verses 23-29 The Spirit of God, at this time, seems to have powerfully wrought on the mind of Job. Here he witnessed a good confession; declared the soundness of his faith, and the assurance of his hope. Here is much of Christ and heaven; and he that said such things are these, declared plainly that he sought the better country, that is, the heavenly. Job was taught of God to believe in a living Redeemer; to look for the resurrection of the dead, and the…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 2626. Rather, though after my skin (is no more) this (body) is destroyed ("body" being omitted, because it was so wasted as not to deserve the name), yet from my flesh (from my renewed body, as the starting-point of vision, So 2:9, "looking out from the windows") "shall I see God." Next clause [Job 19:27] proves bodily vision is meant, for it specifies "mine eyes" [Rosenmuller, 2d ed.]. The Hebrew opposes "in my flesh." The "skin" was the first destroyed by…Read the comment
