Context of Genesis 5:26

24And [in reverent fear and obedience] Enoch walked with God; and he was not [found among men], because God took him [away to be home with Him]. 25When Methuselah was a hundred and eighty-seven years old, he became the father of Lamech. Methuselah lived seven hundred and eighty-two years after the birth of Lamech and had other sons and daughters. 27So Methuselah lived nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died. 28When Lamech was a hundred and eighty-two years old, he became the father of a son.

Noah signifies rest; his parents gave him that name, with a prospect of his being a great blessing to his generation. Adam's family line through Seth records ten generations to Noah (see 1 Chronicles 1:1–4; Luke 3:36–38). The great flood occurred before another 10 generations from Noah to Abram. The…Read the comment

"The allusion is, undoubtedly, to the penal consequences of the fall in earthly toils and sufferings, and to the hope of a Deliverer, excited by the promise made to Eve.
