Context of Ezekiel 47:2
1Then he [my guide] brought me back to the door of the house [the temple of the Lord]; and behold, water was flowing from under the threshold of the house (temple) toward the east, for the front of the temple was facing east. And the water was flowing down from under, from the right side of the house, from south of the altar. Then he brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around on the outside to the outer gate by the way of the gate that faces east. And behold, water was spurting out from the south side [of the gate]. 3When the man went out toward the east with a measuring line in his hand, he measured a thousand cubits, and he led me through the water, water that was ankle-deep. 4Again he measured a thousand [cubits] and led me through the water, water that was knee-deep. Again he measured a thousand [cubits] and led me through the water, water reaching the hips.

They were at first so small that they came guttatim, drop by drop; but they increased so, that they became a river in which one could swim.Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-12Once the temple was restored to its central place among God’s people, its life-giving influence would flow outward. Ezekiel pictures this influence as a river. As the river moves away from the temple, it brings change. It turns places of death into places of life.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-23The happy fruit to the earth at large of God's dwelling with Israel in holy fellowship is that the blessing is no longer restricted to the one people and locality, but is to be diffused with comprehensive catholicity through the whole world. So the plant from the cedar of Lebanon is represented as gathering under its shelter "all fowl of every wing" (Eze 17:23). Even the desert places of the earth shall be made fruitful by the healing waters of the Gospel…Read the comment
