Context of 1 Chronicles 29:29
27The time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem. 28He died in a good old age [his seventy-first year], full of days (satisfied), riches and honor. Solomon his son reigned in his place. Now the acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the chronicles (records) of Samuel the seer, in the chronicles of Nathan the prophet, and in the chronicles of Gad the seer, 30with [accounts of] all his reign, and his power, and the times and circumstances which came on him, on Israel, and on all the kingdoms of the [surrounding] lands.

Commentaries on 1 Chronicles 29:29
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 29The acts of David - first and last - Those which concerned him in private life, as well as those which grew out of his regal government. All these were written by three eminent men, personally acquainted with him through the principal part of his life; these were Samuel and Gad the seers, and Nathan the prophet. These writings are all lost, except the particulars interspersed in the books of Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles, none of which are the records…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 29On the character of the works alluded to, see Introduction to Chronicles. Gad the seer - Gad is not given here the same title as Samuel. Samuel‘s title is one, apparently, of higher dignity, applied only to him and to Hanani 2 Chronicles 16:7, 2 Chronicles 16:10. Gad‘s is a far commoner title; it is applied to his contemporaries Asaph 2 Chronicles 29:30, Heman 1 Chronicles 25:5, and Jeduthun 2 Chronicles 35:15, to Iddo 2 Chronicles 9:29; 2 Chronicles…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 26-30Verses 26-30 When we read the second book of Samuel, we could scarcely have expected to behold David appear so illustrious in his closing scene. Blessed be God, even the chief of sinners may hope for a glorious departure, when brought to repent and flee for refuge to the Saviour's…Read the comment
