Stephen was permitted to see His Saviour who had walked upon the earth, a man among men. The divine light beamed forth from heaven and lighted the way that the disciple might discern His Master and proclaim to His murderers and to His humble followers the sight which enraptured him as he beheld Jesus standing at the right hand of God. That same Jesus says to you, I am acquainted with your sorrows. I have endured them. I know your temptations and conflicts. I have encountered them. I know your soul anguish which pressed from your tears. I also have wept. “Fear not.” “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive forevermore.” Revelation 2:17, 18.Revelation 2:17-28

I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. Revelation 2:20.The Ellen G. White Letters and Manuscripts: Volume 1

One week ago, last Sabbath, we had a very interesting meeting. Brother Hewit19
Identity: It is possible that “Brother Hewit” was the “Oren Hewitt” (or Hewett), of Dead River, Maine, who sent several letters to first-day Adventist papers during the latter 1840s. Whether there is any connection between that Oren Hewitt and the “Oren Hewett” of New York State mentioned in the Review in the early 1850s cannot be established on the basis of present evidence.

Jesus hath said, “I am He which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.” Revelation 2:23. We should be thankful that the Lord knows our circumstances and experiences. Jesus is near, close to us, and He has given the precious promise, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?” Luke 11:13. What reason we have for encouragement! We are assured that the Lord hears our prayers. The promise is, “Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” Luke 11:9Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 10 (1895)

We all need and must have pure religion, not borrowed from another, but from Christ Jesus, the source of all heavenly grace. Then we are to honor God by looking to God, trusting in God, and keeping the truth in the heart pure and undefiled, having that faith that works by love and purifies the soul. The truth, when practiced, is a guide. Christ is truth. We must yield to Him who alone is truth, and who alone can give to the troubled heart assurance and peace. To every one of the human family, confident, boasting, or desponding, God the Searcher of hearts declares, “I know thy works.” [Revelation 2:23.] God speaks, “Know Him.” There can be no hypocrisy on the one hand or deception on the other. God sees and knows.Revelation 2:23-29

Speaking to the church in Thyatira, God says, “And all the churches shall know that I am He that searcheth the reins and hearts; and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. But that which ye have already, hold fast till I come. And he that overcometh, and keepeth My works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations; and he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers; even as I received of My Father. And I will give him the morning star. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” [Revelation 2:23-29.]Revelation 2:26

Through His sacrifice, Christ has made provision for you that you may become sweet in disposition, meek and lowly of heart. My brother, when you are sorely provoked to say or do things that make you a weak man, think of the promise, “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with My Father in His throne” [Revelation 3:21]. “He that overcometh, and keepeth My works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations” [Revelation 2:26].Sons and Daughters of God

Crowns, Harps, and Palm Branches—Before entering the City of God, the Saviour bestows upon His followers the emblems of victory and invests them with the insignia of their royal state. The glittering ranks are drawn up in the form of a hollow square about their King, whose form rises in majesty high above saint and angel, whose countenance beams upon them full of benignant love. Throughout the unnumbered host of the redeemed every glance is fixed upon Him, every eye beholds His glory whose “visage was so marred more than any man, and His form more than the sons of men.” Upon the heads of the overcomers, Jesus with His own right hand places the crown of glory. For each there is a crown, bearing his own “new name” (Revelation 2:17), and the inscription, “Holiness to the Lord.” In every hand are placed the victor’s palm and the shining harp. Then, as the commanding angels strike the note, every hand sweeps the harp strings with skillful touch, awaking sweet music in rich, melodious strains. Rapture unutterable thrills every heart, and each voice is raised in grateful praise: “Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father; to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.” Revelation 1:5, 6.—The Great Controversy, 645, 646Heaven

PP 297.2
The manna, falling from heaven for the sustenance of Israel, was a type of Him who came from God to give life to the world. Said Jesus, “I am that Bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven.... If any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” John 6:48-51. And among the promises of blessing to God’s people in the future life it is written, “To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna.” Revelation 2:17.The Great Controversy
