Our beloved sister is among those included in the vision of John, those of whom he bears testimony, “I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:13.]15LtMs, Ms 3, 1900, par. 8

The Lord has led out representative men to proclaim the first, second, and third angels’ messages. We know that God was with His faithful standard bearers. Many of them held fast their faith until their hands were palsied by death. I labored with the workers, bearing the burden in the heat of the day. Our work was a part of the great web of God’s plans, and nothing can be more offensive to God than to give discredit to those who have fought a good fight, who have finished their course, who have kept the faith unto the end. He says, “Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:13.] They being dead yet speak. Their words, their influence, their example, have lived after their death.6LtMs, Lt 33, 1890, par. 5
In the power and strength and name of the Lord God of Israel, I stand before you and say, I know in whom I have believed. I know that we have the truth in regard to the three messages. I hide myself in Jesus. I am a laborer together with God, to give the message of warning, of reproof, of encouragement, holding aloft the banner on which is inscribed our message: “The commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” [Verse 12.] To the church in Norwich I would say, Your only safety lies in walking humbly with God. Let each bear in mind that he is a thread in the great web of humanity, to act a part with his brethren and sisters in church capacity. All are to earnestly seek to make an entire surrender to God.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 9 (1894)

Does it seem fitting that the mistakes and errors of those who sleep in Jesus, whose names we have reason to believe are written in the Lamb’s book of life, whose life of toil, of suffering and privation, is ended, should be paraded before the world, and that they should be represented as sinners? Does it seem fitting that finite men, who have had the benefit of their experience in order that they might be enabled to shun the mistakes and failures they may have made, and have had the blessing of the divine illumination these chosen men of God have received, so that they were enabled to overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, should present these saints of God as though they were clothed in filthy garments? God forbid. Rather, let it be said: “Here is the patience of the saints; here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” [Revelation 14:12.]9LtMs, Ms 27, 1894, par. 8
The faith they possessed was more than many now comprehend. They understood, accepted, and communicated the redemption that they had fully and freely received, and distinctly experienced through Jesus Christ. They knew the meaning of the words, “As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” [John 1:12-14.] “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:13.]Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 12 (1897)

The Scripture reading, by Elder George B. Starr, comprised the following passages, some of which were read only in part: Psalm 116:15, Ecclesiastes 7:2, 4; Romans 8:35, 37-39; John 6:39, 40; Daniel 12:2, 3; Revelation 14:12, 13; Ezekiel 37:12-14; Isaiah 26:19; Revelation 7:9-17; 21:4. We are not like the heathen, to have days and nights of mourning when nothing is heard but dismal chanting for the dead, for the purpose of arousing human sympathy. We are not to clothe ourselves with mourning clothing and wear a mournful countenance, as though our friends and relatives were forever parted from us. John exclaims, “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. I will say to you, my sister, the Lord would not have you grieve in sadness. Your husband has been spared to you many years longer than I supposed he would be. God has mercifully spared him, and mercifully, after much suffering, has let him rest in Jesus. We read in Revelation, “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:12, 13.] Your husband and my husband are at rest. Under the message of the third angel, some of the faithful will die in the Lord. This matter was opened to John in holy vision. As he beheld the commandment-keeping people of God, he exclaimed, “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:12, 13.]15LtMs, Lt 78, 1900, par. 3
Then, even if we would, we have no right to call them back from the dead, to share our perils, our burdens, and our conflicts. The heavenly messengers commissioned that John should write, “Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord.” [Verse 13.] We will take this side of the question, and not mourn over those pronounced decidedly blessed. I thank the Lord that our brother whom we all loved in the Lord, gave proof at every step that he held fast the hope firmly unto the end. “Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.” [Revelation 3:11.]Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 18 (1903)

This was no new light, but it was old light placed where it should be in the third angel’s message. What is the burden of that message? John sees a people. He says, “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus” (Revelation 14:12). The faith of Jesus includes all His teachings—You inquire what the faith of Jesus is. I have seen that the brethren and sisters have not understood the faith of Jesus in its true light. They have taught that it is healing the sick, etc. It is not healing the sick, merely, but it is all the teachings of Jesus in the New Testament. “The commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” [Revelation 14:12.] I saw that it was the whole New Testament which relates to Jesus.—Letter 11, 1853 (December 3)Selected Messages Book 3

“The faith of Jesus.” [Revelation 14:12.] It is talked of, but not understood. What constitutes the faith of Jesus that belongs to the third angel’s message? Jesus becoming our sin-bearer that He might become our sin-pardoning Saviour. He was treated as we deserve to be treated. He came to our world and took our sins that we might take His righteousness. Faith in the ability of Christ to save us amply and fully and entirely is the faith of Jesus.Revelation 14:12-15

John on the Isle of Patmos was bidden to write: “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” Revelation 14:13. From this we see that if persons are not raised to health, they should not on this account be judged as wanting in faith.Homeward Bound

Your life is not secure. Apply your means as you want it while you can. You may live to go through the time of trouble with the remnant, and you may be one of that number who are called blessed. “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord,” etc. [Revelation 14:13.] Your head is already white. You are ripening up for the great harvest. Act the part faithfully which God assigns you, that at His coming it may be said of you, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” etc. [Matthew 25:23.]Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 3 (1876 - 1882)

As I come into my tent from a long, protracted effort the sad intelligence meets me [that] Brother Diggins is dead. The faithful standard-bearer in San Francisco has fallen. He has been as a balance wheel to the church. We greatly deplore his loss. Who will supply his place? “Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” Revelation 14:13. Sweetly will this faithful soldier of the cross repose in Jesus until the Archangel’s trump shall sound to call forth the precious sleepers from their dusty beds to a glorious immortality. California has met with a great loss. We know not what they will do without the intelligent, decided counsel of one of the noblest men in the cause of God. His sterling integrity has won the love and affection of all his brethren and sisters. Oh! must the earth hide this precious jewel from our sight? When we visit California again shall we no more meet Father Diggins and receive the cordial greeting and look upon that venerable countenance beaming with kindness and love. And thus it is. One loved one after another closing their probation, laying off their armor and resting in the silent chambers of the tomb till Christ, who holds the keys of death and the grave, shall open the prison houses of these held captive by the king of terrors.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 3 (1876 - 1882)

The apostle was bidden to write, “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:13.] From this we can see that every one is not to be raised up, and if they are not raised to health, they should not be judged as <not having faith.> If Jesus, the world’s Redeemer, prayed, “O my Father, if it be possible let this cup pass from me:” and added, “Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt” [Matthew 26:39], how very appropriate is it for poor finite mortals to make the same surrender to the wisdom and will of God.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 8 (1893)

The Lord has graciously spared my life thus long and I am improving in health, but how long I shall be permitted to have a part in carrying forward the work I know not. I would be true and faithful as long as my life is spared. Time is passing so swiftly, and the great crisis is before us. We are really to have a part, if life is spared a little longer, in the closing scenes of this earth’s history. “Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:13.] The time passes so rapidly. “And, Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” [Revelation 22:12.] Now is our sowing time. The reaping time will be ere long. Let us now, more than ever before, make the Lord God of Israel our trust. In proportion as the heart is more and more sanctified by grace and filled with the active love of God, the application of great truths will be brought and interwoven with little things, and there will be with the children of God a consistent course of obedience. We will find in our experience that the yoke of Christ is easy and His burden is light. The heart submissive to God’s will and to God’s way in even little things will bring a peace, a restfulness, a trustfulness in God [so] that we continually rejoice.Counsels on Health

The apostle was bidden to write, “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” Revelation 14:13. From this we can see that all are not to be raised up; and if they are not raised to health they should not be judged as unworthy of eternal life. If Jesus, the world’s Redeemer, prayed, “O My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me,” and added, “nevertheless not as I will, but as Thou wilt” (Matthew 26:39), how very appropriate it is for finite mortals to make the same surrender to the wisdom and will of God.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 9 (1894)

Let us cherish the truth which has been spoken to us and the counsel that has been given to us by men through whom God has manifested His will in a marked manner. Let us be grateful that there were men who appropriated the grace of Christ and bore the burden in the heat of the day, whose lips are now silent. The Lord Jesus bade John to write of them, “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:13.] We should be careful how we handle the names of the precious and blessed ones who sleep in Jesus.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 10 (1895)

When the Lord brought me from the depths of despair, and acknowledged me as His child, His peace filled my soul. I have had sorrows and bereavements since then. My eldest child, the highest branch of the family tree, was broken off; my babe was taken from my arms; and I have folded my husband’s arms over his breast and laid him away to rest till the last trump shall sound, and the dead in Christ shall rise. Did I go to his grave to weep? No; the Lord gave me strength to say, He has done his work; let him rest till the morning of the resurrection, and then I shall see him again. “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:13.]Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 12 (1897)

This subject needs to be treated with great caution. We know of instances where the Lord has laid a case of diseased humanity upon the heart of His people, and put within them a longing of soul and they have prayed most earnestly for recovery, and have supposed they had a right to claim the promise, and yet the sick died. The Lord, who sees the end from the beginning, understood that should He work by His power to heal, the divine will would be misunderstood. At times, restoration would not be best, either for the friends or for the church, but would result in wild enthusiasm and fanaticism, leading some to the conclusion that impulse is the ground of our faith. The only safe course is to follow the written Word. After you have done all you can for the sufferer, place the case in the hands of the Lord. It may be that death will be for His glory. The Lord permits some to die who for months and years have lingered in sickness. He sees fit to give His suffering ones rest. “And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth, yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:13.]Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 14 (1899)

Intensity of soul is needed in the work of seeking to save those who are perishing out of Christ. Those who are laborers together with God will be contrite because they are compassionate. Satan is intense in his efforts to deceive souls and gather them under his banner of apostasy and rebellion, and his laborers are without number. The Lord has a great work to do. He has decisive battles to fight, and He calls upon young men and young women to fight for Him. He calls upon old men to act as counsellors who can teach the young men what to do in cases of emergency. Aged workers are to bear, as did John a living testimony of real experience. And when these faithful workers are laid to rest with the words, “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord” [Revelation 14:13], there should be found in our schools men and women who can take the standard and raise it in new places.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 14 (1899)

Many who never went to meeting before have attended the meetings in the tent. Whole families have been converted. Of all places where labor has been put forth, there is need of meetinghouses in Brisbane, one in one end of the city, and another in another part. After the camp meeting Brother and Sister Wilson and Brother and Sister Haskell stood at the head of the work in Brisbane. Brother Wilson now sleeps in Jesus. A standard-bearer has fallen at his post. “Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth. There are living upon our earth, men who have passed the age of four score and ten. The natural results of old age are seen in their feebleness. But they believe God, and God loves them. The seal of God is upon them, and they will be among the number of whom the Lord has said, “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord.” [Revelation 14:13.] With Paul they can say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” [2 Timothy 4:7, 8.] There are many whose gray hairs God honors because they have fought a good fight and kept the faith.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 15 (1900)

It is painful to our Lord to see the dwarfed religious life of those who claim to be Christians because they do not properly represent Him to the world. He would have His Holy Spirit breathed upon all who ask for it in faith. He is more willing to give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him than parents are to give good gifts unto their children. Do we realize that a consecrated life has a telling influence upon many souls in our world? Life hid with Christ in God means much, and we are responsible for every hour of our life which has been granted us to form characters for the future life and to respond to the declaration, “We are laborers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.” [1 Corinthians 3:9.] We are working for time and for eternity. “Write, Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, they do rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:13.] Then glory will come back to God through the living influence of church members who have been doers of the commandments of God.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 15 (1900)

The great Head of the church has given talents to the company of believers. He has given His Word to mold the character and His Spirit to bring all things to their remembrance. He desires His people to bring into their work the true <abiding> principles of missionary effort. Many of the Lord’s servants are numbered with those of whom John wrote, “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:13.] Those who are left to plant the standard in new places are to have a keen, sanctified interest in every plan which is related, directly or indirectly, to the great work of warning the world.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 17 (1902)

My brother, you may not live long. Have you made your will? We know that you want to be the Lord’s right hand, working in co-operation with Him. Even after your life ends, it is your privilege to carry forward His work. Will you please consider this, and return to the Lord His own, that you may know that you have faithfully acted your part, doing what you could? If you do this, when you are called upon to lay off the armor, you will illustrate the words that God instructed John to write: “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:13.]Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 17 (1902)

I have a message for my aged brethren and sisters. Soon your life history must close. What disposition are you making of the Lord’s capital. May the Lord help you to make a right decision as to how you will dispose of the Lord’s entrusted goods. If your children are able to gain a livelihood by their own efforts, do not in your will place on them responsibilities that they may not know how to manage. Lay your plans with reference to the advancement of the Lord’s great missionary work. Then, though you may be called to rest, you will still have a part in the Lord’s work; for your means will be helping to add new territory to His kingdom. You will still be the Lord’s helping hand; for you will have placed the Lord’s legacy to you where it will help to win souls to Him. Years afterward, when he died, my friends said, “O Sister White, do pray that he may be raised up!” I replied, “The Lord says, ‘Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.’ [Revelation 14:13.] I do not desire the old warrior to come back to life, to die again; let him rest till the morning of the resurrection.”Life Sketches of Ellen G. In one of the glorious visions given John the beloved on the isle of Patmos, the prophet’s attention was arrested by “a voice from heaven” bidding him write: “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” Revelation 14:13. You have cared constantly for her. To see her face no more will be a great grief to you. Were we living nearer you, we would say, “Come apart, and rest awhile.” [Mark 6:31.] But your duties claim your time. I would say to you, Trust in the Lord. You will feel the death of your mother very keenly; but let me tell you that I sorrow not for the righteous dead, but for the living. Since our return from the East, we have passed through a time of great anxiety, and I have not yet recovered from the strain. The apostle was bidden to write, “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” [Revelation 14:13.] From this we can see that every one is not to be raised up, and if they are not raised to health, they should not be judged as not having faith. If Jesus, the world’s Redeemer, prayed, “O my Father, if it be possible let this cup pass from me,” and added, “Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt” [Matthew 26:39], how very appropriate is it for poor finite mortals to make the same surrender to the wisdom and will of God.—Manuscript 26a, 1892 (August 5) (Counsels on Health, 375, 376)Manuscript Releases, vol. 9 [Nos. 664-770]

He says, “Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them” (Revelation 14:13). They being dead yet speak. Their words, their influence, their example, have lived after their death.Manuscript Releases, vol. 9 [Nos. 664-770]

Mrs. Kellogg and Sara [McEnterfer] were with Marian at the time of her death. Abundant light has been given to our people in these last days. Whether or not my life is spared, my writings will constantly speak, and their work will go forward as long as time shall last. My writings are kept on file in the office, and even though I should not live, these words that have been given to me by the Lord will still have life and will speak to the people. But my strength is yet spared, and I hope to continue to do much useful work. I may live until the coming of the Lord; but if I should not, I trust it may be said of me, “Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them” (Revelation 14:13)Revelation 14:13-16

Then commenced the jubilee, when the land should rest. I saw the pious slave rise in triumph and victory, and shake off the chains that bound him, while his wicked master was in confusion, and knew not what to do; for the wicked could not understand the words of the voice of God. [Daniel 12:10.] Soon appeared the great white cloud. [Revelation 14:14.] It looked more lovely than ever before. On it sat the Son of Man. [Luke 21:27.] At first we did not see Jesus on the cloud, but as it drew near the earth, we could behold his lovely person. This cloud when it first appeared was the Sign of the Son of Man in heaven. [Matthew 24:30.] The voice of the Son of God called forth the sleeping saints, [John 5:25-28.] clothed with a glorious immortality. The living saints were changed in a moment, and caught up with them in the cloudy chariot. [1 Thessalonians 4:17.] It looked all over glorious as it rolled upwards. On either side of the chariot were wings, and beneath it wheels. And as the chariot rolled upwards, the wheels cried Holy, and the wings as they moved, cried Holy, and the retinue of Holy Angels around the cloud cried Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty. And the saints in the cloud cried Glory, Hallelujah. And the cloudy chariot rolled upwards to the Holy City. Jesus threw open the gates of the Golden City, and led us in. [Isaiah 26:2.] Here we were made welcome, for we had kept the “Commandments of God,” and had a “right to the tree of life.” [Revelation 22:14.]Revelation 14:14-15

2. The calling on the name of the Lord, and the deliverance of the remnant, spoken of in close relation to the great day of the Lord, evidently refer to the closing scenes of the history of the church in this mortal state. The oppressed people of God are yet to raise to heaven one united day and night cry for deliverance. Luke 18. This is symbolized by the message of prayer of the fourth angel of Revelation 14:15. When you are sanctified through the truth, you will be a Christian, patient, kind. You have an overbearing temperament. You hold yourself too high and others hold you too high; therefore anything you may do looks right in the eyes of others, but they do not look into the soul. The great Searcher of hearts says, “I know thy works.” [Revelation 14:15.] Your heart needs to be humbled before God. You need to be very jealous of yourself. You have made acknowledgment of your errors at different times in your experience, but you have not put them away. You have not seen the sinfulness of many thoughts or the offensive character of your works before God. As John has a view of the people of God, he says, “Here are they that keep the commandments of God.” “And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament.” [Revelation 14:12; 11:19.] Every one has his eye directed to the sanctuary where the commandments of God are. Right over the ark of His testament is the mercy seat. Written over the throne of God is His bow of promise. Why, the commandment-keeping people, they shall not perish, but have everlasting life. Here is the bow of promise. God has covenanted, and He will be with His people. How dare any give the trumpet an uncertain sound, as they do when they say Sunday is the Sabbath, when God has not given them one syllable to say so? Those who are laborers together with God will have the mind and spirit of Christ and will experience His joy in seeking to help souls who are benighted to find hope in Jesus Christ. The Lord has commissioned us to push forward His work in the earth, but Satan is determined to counteract the work of redemption. He seeks to destroy the moral image of God in man, and to unite the human race with himself and his sympathizers, who swerved from their allegiance to God, and were cast out of heaven. He has sought by every manner of deception to establish his kingdom in the earth, and to conform all men unto his own standing. He is constantly seeking to make men feel the same hatred toward God as he himself feels; but we are to put forth diligent efforts to unfurl the banner of the third angel’s message upon which is written, “The commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” [Revelation 14:12.]Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 10 (1895)

When men shall cease to trust in man, and shall make God their efficiency, then they will have far more confidence in their fellow laborers. We have altogether too small faith in God and too little confidence in one another. The religious liberty question is a very important subject, and requires to be treated with great wisdom and discretion, lest by mismoves there is brought about a crisis before we, as a people, are prepared for it. The burden of our message for this time is to voice the message of the third angel, “the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” [Revelation 14:12.]Life Sketches of Ellen G. White

The question of religious liberty is very important, and it should be handled with great wisdom and discretion. Unless this is done there is danger that by our own course of action we shall bring upon ourselves a crisis before we are prepared for it. The burden of our message should be “the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” [Revelation 14:12.] Our brethren should be cautioned not to make moves that will create and provoke the powers that be, so that they will make moves that will limit the work, and cut us off from proclaiming the message in different localities.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 11 (1896)

Who will now understand these things that I write? There are men who have known the truth, who have feasted upon the truth, who are now divided between infidel sentiments. There is only a step between them and the precipice of eternal ruin. The Lord is coming, but those who ventured to resist the light that God gave in rich measure at Minneapolis, who have not humbled their hearts before God, will follow on in the path of resistance, saying, “Who is the Lord that I should obey His voice?” [Exodus 5:2.] The banner all will bear who voice the message of the third angel is being covered with another color that virtually kills it. This is being done. Will our people now hold fast to the truth? “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” [Revelation 14:12.] This is our standard. The life of a church depends on the interest which its members manifest in those outside the fold. Let the church of God remember that Christ gave Himself as a sacrifice to save a world from destruction. For our sake He became poor, that we through His poverty might come into possession of eternal riches. Shall those whom God has blessed with a knowledge of the truth become narrow in their plans? Let them arouse to a sense of their vast obligations, cutting away every thread of selfishness, that the Lord may pour upon them His Holy Spirit. Let them seek the Lord while He may be found, and call upon Him while He is near. They have no reason for being faithless and complaining. Let them cease all fault-finding and murmuring, and encourage a spirit of gratitude for past mercies and blessings. Let them praise the Lord in unfeigned gratitude for the light of His Word, which shines upon their pathway, to be received into heart and mind, and reflected upon those in darkness. Thus they will be prepared to work to the praise and glory of Christ, and to inscribe upon their banners, “Here are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus” (Revelation 14:12) (The Signs of the Times, August 21, 1901).Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 13 (1898)

But just as soon as you allow your influence to lead away from the strait and narrow path that the Lord has cast up for His people, in order to accommodate yourself, your prosperity will cease, for God will not be your guide. All the sufferings of Christ endured in our world were to magnify and exalt the law which Miss Willard has repudiated. How does our Saviour regard your actions in this instance? There is a false harmony presented before the world, before angels and men, and in this action you have revealed such qualifications that God cannot use you. You will exalt the wrong and repudiate the right. God calls for no false harmony to be cherished and set forth to the world. The heavenly angels are most delicately sensitive to any discord. Those who are now stirringly active in proclaiming to the world the last message of warning, those who see and understand that the last great conflict is right upon us, must proclaim to the world, “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” [Revelation 14:12.]13LtMs, Lt 60, 1898, par. 38

Presenting the cross of Calvary we are to cry, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” [John 1:29.] When men shall cease to trust in man and make God their efficiency, we shall see the earth filled with the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 14 (1899)

There must be no evasion of truth in the message given in these last days. Every worker must stand cemented to the right, that the world may have the light of truth. Only those who confess the truth before men, however unpopular they may become in doing so, will Christ confess before the Father and before His angels. Let none be more solicitous for worldly honor and promotion than for the living principles of truth. God and the angels always stand decidedly for the right. The gospel, which is the embodiment of truth and righteousness, must be presented. Inscribe upon your banner, “The commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” [Revelation 14:12.] In the near future we shall see the necessity of standing loyal and true, for temptations will come to form parties in which principle is sacrificed to policy.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 14 (1899)

I call upon my brethren who are appointed to educate to change their course of action. It is a mistake for you to link your interests with any political party, to cast your vote with them or for them. Those who stand as educators, as ministers, as laborers together with God in any line, have no battles to fight in the political world. Their citizenship is in heaven. The Lord calls upon them to stand as a separate and peculiar people. He would have no schisms in the body of believers. His people are to possess the elements of reconciliation. Is it their work to make enemies in the political world? No, no. They are to stand as subjects of Christ’s kingdom, bearing the banner on which is inscribed, “The commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” [Revelation 14:12.] They are to carry the burden of a special work, a special message. We have a personal responsibility, and this is to be revealed before the heavenly universe, before angels, and before men. God does not call upon us to enlarge our influence by mingling with society, by linking up with men on political questions, but by standing as individual parts of His great whole, with Christ as our head. Christ is our Prince, and as His subjects, we are to do the work appointed us by God.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 14 (1899)

“We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” [Ephesians 6:12.] We must warn and entreat and pray. But be careful when advocating the truth to give no one occasion to rightfully accuse us of advocating treason. We must be firmly rooted in God. The crisis is very near. The test will come, but for Christ’s sake manifest at all times His meekness and lowliness. Then the Lord can work in our behalf. We are to go forward in His name, fearing even to bring a railing accusation against Satan. We should, if possible, live peaceably with all men, advocating the words, “It is written;” for the end is near. Go forward in the name of the Lord, uplifting the banner on which is inscribed, “The commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” [Revelation 14:12.]Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 15 (1900)

Darkness has covered the earth, and gross darkness the people. Christ says to His followers, “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” [Matthew 5:16.] The Holy Spirit must control in the sanitarium. By their words and their works, those connected with the institution are to give to those in darkness the light of the knowledge of the glory of God. Treasures of influence and treasures of means are to be invested where they will yield thirty, sixty, and even a hundredfold. The standard on which is inscribed, “The commandments of God and the faith of Jesus,” is to be uplifted. [Revelation 14:12.] Under all circumstances, in all ages of the world, this is the only correct standard of duty.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 15 (1900)

The Lord means that our camp meetings shall be the most holy convocations in His special service. Here the standard is to be raised, the ensign of our faith and practice inscribed. “Here are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” [Revelation 14:12.] None are to take advantage of these occasions for reaching the greatest number of people in order to introduce special interests, or to raise means for sustaining the various benevolent objects that are becoming so numerous. The work of God in the ministry of the Word, the promulgation of the truth in the regions beyond, the work to be done in new fields in behalf of the great interests of education, and the establishment of sanitariums in connection with the work of the gospel ministry—these are objects that should be presented to the people in our camp meetings.Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 15 (1900)

“In all parts of the world there are fields ready for harvest, and in these fields are men and women of talent, whom God could use in His work, but this work has been kept back for want of means, while you have been absorbing thousands and thousands of dollars in a work of your own planning, the result of which has been to confuse minds as to what constitutes the work to be done in these last days. You have not carried the right burden. You have not lifted the banner on which is inscribed, ‘The commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.’ [Revelation 14:12.]”
