Context of Leviticus 6:28
26The priest who offers it for sin is to eat it. It must be eaten in a holy place, in the court of the Meeting Tent. 27Anyone who touches its meat must be holy, and whoever spatters some of its blood on a garment, you must wash whatever he spatters it on in a holy place. Any clay vessel it is boiled in must be broken, and if it was boiled in a bronze vessel, then that vessel must be rubbed out and rinsed in water. 29Any male among the priests may eat it. It is most holy. 30But any sin offering from which some of its blood is brought into the Meeting Tent to make atonement in the sanctuary must not be eaten. It must be burned up in the fire.

Commentaries on Leviticus 6:28
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 28The earthen vessel - shall be broken - Calmet states that this should be considered as implying the vessels brought by individuals to the court of the temple or tabernacle, and not of the vessels that belonged to the priests for the ordinary service. That the people dressed their sacrifices sometimes in the court of the tabernacle, he gathers from 1 Samuel 2:13, 1 Samuel 2:14, to which the reader is desired to refer. In addition to what has been already…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 24-30Verses 24-30 The blood of the sin-offering was to be washed out of the clothes on which it should happen to be sprinkled, which signified the regard we ought to have to the blood of Christ, not counting it a common thing. The vessel in which the flesh of the sin-offering was boiled must be broken, if it were an earthen one; but if a brazen one, well washed. This showed that the defilement was not wholly taken away by the offering; but the blood of Christ…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 28A clay pot was porous and could not be cleaned well. Some of the holy food might stick to it or soak into it. Using the pot again would dishonor what was holy. But a bronze pot could be scrubbed clean to prevent this problem (see also Leviticus 11:33; 15:12).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 21-3025-28. This is the law of the sin offering--It was slain, and the fat and inwards, after being washed and salted, were burnt upon the altar. But the rest of the carcass belonged to the officiating priest. He and his family might feast upon it--only, however, within the precincts of the tabernacle; and none else were allowed to partake of it but the members of a priestly family--and not even they, if under any ceremonial defilement. The flesh on all…Read the comment
