Context of Ezekiel 34:28
26I will bless them and the places around my hill. I will send rain at the right time. These showers will be a blessing to them. 27Then the trees in the field will produce fruit, the land will yield crops, and my sheep will live safely in their land. Then they will know that I am the Lord, because I will break off the bars on their yokes and rescue them from the people who made them slaves. They will no longer be prey to the nations, and the wild animals will no longer eat them. They will live safely, and no one will frighten them. 29I will give them a place that is known for its good crops. They will no longer experience hunger in the land, and they will no longer suffer the insults of other nations. 30Then they will know that I, the Lord their God, am with them and that they, the people of Israel, are my people, declares the Almighty Lord.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 20-31Verses 20-31 Yahweh having promised to be a Ruler of His people, the administration of the divine kingdom is now described, as carried on by One King, the representative of David, whose dominion should fulfill all the promises originally made to the man after God‘s own heart. Ezekiel does not so much add to, as explain and develope, the original promise; and as the complete fulfillment of the spiritual blessings, which the prophets were guided to…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 17-31Verses 17-31 The whole nation seemed to be the Lord's flock, yet they were very different characters; but he knew how to distinguish between them. By good pastures and deep waters, are meant the pure word of God and the dispensing of justice. The latter verses, 23-31, prophesy of Christ, and of the most glorious times of his church on earth. Under Him, as the good Shepherd, the church would be a blessing to all around. Christ, though excellent in himself…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 27-31In this covenant of peace (a promise of restored relationship with God), God’s people receive the blessings that come from being whole in their relationship with him. This covenant was not completely new. It was like the covenant God made at Mount Sinai. The Sinai covenant promised true and lasting peace. However, the people did not experience that peace because of their sin. They broke their relationship with God again and again. In the past, Israel’s…Read the comment
