Context of Psalms 79:2
1God, foreign nations have attacked your own land. They have spoiled your holy temple. They have destroyed the buildings in Jerusalem. They have let birds come down and eat the dead bodies of your people. Your servants have become food for wild animals to eat. 3The blood of your servants has poured out all over the streets of Jerusalem. There is nobody left there to bury their bodies. 4The nations that live near to us do not respect us. They laugh at us and they insult us.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 2The dead bodies of thy servants - It appears that in the destruction of Jerusalem the Chaldeans did not bury the bodies of the slain, but left them to be devoured by birds and beasts of prey. This was the grossest inhumanity.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2The dead bodies of thy servants - They have slain them, and left them unburied. See 2 Chronicles 36:17. This is a description of widespread carnage and slaughter, such as we know occurred at the time when Jerusalem was taken by the Chaldeans. That would occur, therefore…Read the comment
