Context of Numbers 7:48
46He brought one male goat for a sin offering. 47He also brought two oxen, five male sheep, five male goats, and five male lambs that were less than one year old. Those animals were for the friendship offerings. That was the gift of Eliasaph, the son of Deuel. On day 7, Elishama, the son of Ammihud, from the tribe of Ephraim brought his gift. 49He brought a plate and a bowl that someone had made from silver. The plate weighed 130 shekels. The bowl weighed 70 shekels. They had weighed the silver by the shekel of God's Holy Tent. Both of those were full of good flour that he had mixed with oil. They were for a grain offering. 50He brought one small dish that someone had made from gold. It weighed ten shekels and it was full of incense.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 48On the seventh day - Both Jewish and Christian writers have been surprised that this work of offering went forward on the seventh day, which they suppose to have been a Sabbath, as well as on the other days. But 1.There is no absolute proof that this seventh day of offering was a Sabbath. 2.Were it even so, could the people be better employed than in thus consecrating themselves and their services to the Lord? We have already seen that every act was a…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-89Verses 10-89 The princes and great men were most forward in the service of God. Here is an example to those in authority, and of the highest rank; they ought to use their honour and power, their estate and interest, to promote religion and the service of God in the places where they live. Though it was a time of joy and rejoicing, yet still, in the midst of their sacrifices, we find a sin-offering. As, in our best services, we are conscious that there is…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 12-83One by one, the tribal leaders brought their gifts for the dedication of the altar. Each tribe participated until the whole Hebrew confederation (the united group of twelve tribes) had taken part. The text repeats the description of each tribe’s gift. This repetition highlights the shared nature of the ceremony. Every tribe had a role in setting apart their place of worship for God. The careful listing of the gifts may reflect detailed record keeping…Read the comment
