Context of Numbers 7:11
9But the descendants of Kohath had to carry everything that was special on their shoulders. So Moses did not give any carts or oxen to the descendants of Kohath. 10When Moses poured special oil on the altar, the leaders also brought gifts. They offered their gifts to God in front of the altar. The Lord said to Moses: ‘One leader must bring a gift to the altar every day. That is how they will make the altar special for me.’ 12On the first day, Nahshon, the son of Amminadab from the tribe of Judah brought his gift. 13He brought a plate and a bowl that someone had made from silver. The plate weighed 130 shekels. The bowl weighed 70 shekels. They had weighed the silver by the shekel of God's Holy Tent. Both of those were full of good flour that he had mixed with oil. They were for a grain offering.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-89Verses 10-89 The princes and great men were most forward in the service of God. Here is an example to those in authority, and of the highest rank; they ought to use their honour and power, their estate and interest, to promote religion and the service of God in the places where they live. Though it was a time of joy and rejoicing, yet still, in the midst of their sacrifices, we find a sin-offering. As, in our best services, we are conscious that there is…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 10-11When they anointed the altar, the tribal leaders gave the wagons and oxen, silver and gold vessels, and other religious offerings for the altar. Starting with the tribe of Judah, the leaders brought these gifts to the tabernacle for 12 days. They collected these gifts from the Egyptians when Israel left Egypt (compare Exodus 12:35–36; 25:3).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 10-1110-11. the princes offered for dedicating of the altar, &c.--"Altar" is here used in the singular for the plural; for it is evident, from the kind of offerings, that the altars of burnt offering and incense are both referred to. This was not the first or proper dedication of those altars, which had been made by Moses and Aaron some time before [Le 8:11]. But it might be considered an additional "dedication"--those offerings being the first that were made…Read the comment
