Context of Numbers 26:12
10A hole opened in the ground. Korah, Dathan, Abiram and their families fell into the hole and they died. And fire killed 250 other men. So they became a sign to warn the other Israelites. 11But Korah's clan did not all die at that time. The tribe of Simeon had these clans: Nemuel's family, Jamin's family, Jakin's family, 13Zerah's family and Shaul's family. 14There were 22,200 men in the clans of the tribe of Simeon.

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-65After nearly 40 years, Israel registered their men of military age again. This was while camping on the plains of Moab across from Jericho (compare chapters 1–4). The overall population changed only slightly, with 603,550 in the first registration and 601,730 in the second. This nearly complete replacement of the population showed that the Lord remained faithful to Israel despite their repeated acts of rebellion (26:63–65).Read the comment
