Context of Malachi 2:6
4The Lord Almighty says, ‘When I punish you like that, you will know that I have warned you. Then the covenant that I made with Levi and his descendants, the priests, can continue. 5I promised to give them a good life with many blessings. Levi received what I promised to him. He served me and he respected me, as a priest should do. He taught my true message. He did not teach people anything that was bad. He lived in a good and honest way as he served me. He helped many people to stop doing wrong things. 7Priests should help people to know the truth about God. People should ask the priests to teach them, because the Lord Almighty has chosen priests to speak his message. 8But you priests do not serve me in the right way. What you teach causes many people to do wrong things. In that way, you have spoiled the covenant that I made with Levi.’ That is what the Lord Almighty says.

Commentaries on Malachi 2:6
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 6The law of truth was in his mouth - See the qualifications of Levi: "He feared me;" he was my sincere worshipper. "He was afraid;" he acted as in the presence of a just and holy God, and acted conscientiously in all that he did. "My law of truth was ever in his mouth;" by this he directed his own conduct and that of others. "No iniquity;" nothing contrary to justice and equity ever proceeded "from his lips." "He walked with me in peace;" he lived in such…Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 1-9Malachi’s second message confirms the Lord as God and father of Israel. God alone deserves true worship. The first part (Malachi 1:6–14) shows how the Israelites dishonored God despite his fatherly care and great power. The second part (Malachi 2:1–9) warns the priests of Judah against sacrificing sick and defective animals and criticizes them for not teaching God’s instructions (2:6–8).Read the comment

He describes the promises, and also the conditions of the covenant; Levi's observance of the conditions and reward (compare Nu 25:11-13, Phinehas' zeal); and on the other hand the violation of the conditions, and consequent punishment of the present priests. "Life" here includes the perpetuity implied in Nu 25:13, "everlasting priesthood." "Peace" is specified both here and there. Maurer thus explains it; the Hebrew is, literally, "My covenant was…Read the comment
