Context of Leviticus 25:15
13In the Jubilee year every person must return to the land of his family. 14If the people buy and sell land from each other, they must be honest with each other. The person who is selling the land will decide the price. He must count the number of years until the next Jubilee year. 16When there are many years, the price must be big. When there are few years, the price must be small. The number of years that the land will give food to eat is what is important. 17Be honest with each other and respect God. I am the Lord your God.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 8-22Verses 8-22 The word "jubilee" signifies a peculiarly animated sound of the silver trumpets. This sound was to be made on the evening of the great day of atonement; for the proclamation of gospel liberty and salvation results from the sacrifice of the Redeemer. It was provided that the lands should not be sold away from their families. They could only be disposed of, as it were, by leases till the year of jubilee, and then returned to the owner or his…Read the comment

If the owner had to give up the land because of financial problems, he could lease it for up to forty-nine years, until the next Jubilee. The price depended on the lease length. At the end of that period, the land returned to the original owner's family.Read the comment
