Context of Leviticus 14:49
47Any person who sleeps in a house with mildew must wash his clothes. And any person who eats in a house with mildew must wash his clothes. 48If a person mends his house, the priest must look at it. There may not be any mildew. The priest will then say that it is clean. The person must take two birds and some wood from the cedar tree. He must take red wool and hyssop. 50The priest will bring a pot with water in it. He will hold one of the birds over the pot and he will kill it. 51The priest will take the other bird and the wood from the cedar tree. He will take the red wool and the hyssop. He will put all of them into the blood of the dead bird. He will shake the blood and water over the house seven times. This will make the house clean.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 33-53Verses 33-53 This section is separated from that on leprosy in clothing Leviticus 13:47-59 with which it would seem to be naturally connected, and is placed last of all the laws concerning leprosy, probably on account of its being wholly prospective. While the Israelites were in the wilderness, the materials of their dwellings were of nearly the same nature as those of their clothing, and would be liable to the same sort of decay. They were therefore…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 33-53Verses 33-53 The leprosy in a house is unaccountable to us, as well as the leprosy in a garment; but now sin, where that reigns in a house, is a plague there, as it is in a heart. Masters of families should be aware, and afraid of the first appearance of sin in their families, and put it away, whatever it is. If the leprosy is got into the house, the infected part must be taken out. If it remain in the house, the whole must be pulled down. The owner had…Read the comment

- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-572-3. law of the leper in the day of his cleansing--Though quite convalescent, a leper was not allowed to return to society immediately and at his own will. The malignant character of his disease rendered the greatest precautions necessary to his re-admission among the people. One of the priests most skilled in the diagnostics of disease [Grotius], being deputed to attend such outcasts, the restored leper appeared before this official, and when after…Read the comment
