Context of Job 21:14
12They enjoy the music of tambourines and harps. They sing with joy to the sound of flutes. 13Wicked people have plenty of money through their whole lives. Even when they die, they do not suffer. They say to God, “Leave us alone! We do not want to know about your ways. 15We do not need to serve the Almighty God. If we pray to him, there is nothing he can do to help us.” 16They think that they have made themselves rich. But it is not true. So I do not listen to the things that wicked people say.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 14They say unto God - This is the language of their conduct, though not directly of their lips. Depart from us - Let us alone; we do not trouble thee. Thy ways are painful; we do not like cross-bearing. Thy ways are spiritual; we wish to live after the flesh. We have learned to do our own will; we do not wish to study thine.Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 14Therefore - This would seem to indicate that the “result” of their living in this manner was that they rejected God, or that one of the consequences of their being prospered would be that they would cast off his government and authority; that they renounced him “because” they were thus prosperous, or because they wished to train up their children in merriment and dancing. All this may be true in itself, but that idea is not in the Hebrew. That is simply…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 7-16Verses 7-16 Job says, Remarkable judgments are sometimes brought upon notorious sinners, but not always. Wherefore is it so? This is the day of God's patience; and, in some way or other, he makes use of the prosperity of the wicked to serve his own counsels, while it ripens them for ruin; but the chief reason is, because he will make it appear there is another world. These prospering sinners make light of God and religion, as if because they have so much…Read the comment
