Context of Jeremiah 52:30
28This is a list of the number of people that Nebuchadnezzar took away as prisoners to Babylon: He took 3,023 people from Judah in his seventh year as king. 29He took 832 people from Jerusalem in his 18th year. Captain Nebuzaradan took 745 people from Judah in Nebuchadnezzar's 23rd year as king. So Nebuchadnezzar took 4,600 people away as his prisoners. 3137 years after King Jehoiachin of Judah had gone as a prisoner to Babylon, Evil-Merodach became the king of Babylon. On the 25th day of the 12th month, he took Jehoiachin out from his prison so that he became free. 32King Evil-Merodach spoke in a kind way to Jehoiachin. He gave him more honour than the other kings who were with him in Babylon.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 24-30Verses 24-30 The leaders of the Jews caused them to err; but now they are, in particular, made monuments of Divine justice. Here is an account of two earlier captivities. This people often were wonders both of judgment and mercy.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 28-30The numbers in these verses add to the information in 2 Kings 24:14–16 about the exile in 597 BC. The deportation in Jeremiah 52:30 is not mentioned elsewhere in the Bible. It was likely a Babylonian response to Gedaliah’s murder (Jeremiah 41:1–3). This suggests that the person or people who made this adaptation lived after 581 BC, probably in Babylon.Read the comment
