Context of Jeremiah 35:12
10We have always lived in tents. So we have completely obeyed our ancestor Jonadab. We have done everything that he commanded us to do. 11But when King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon attacked our land, we decided to come to Jerusalem. We said, “We must leave here and go to Jerusalem. We must escape from the armies of Babylon and Syria.” That is why we are now living in Jerusalem.’ Then the Lord gave this message to Jeremiah. 13The Lord Almighty, Israel's God, said to him, ‘Go and speak to the people of Judah, including those who live in Jerusalem. Tell them that I, the Lord, say this: “Learn a lesson about how you should obey me! 14Rekab's son Jonadab commanded his descendants that they must not drink wine. They have obeyed his command. Even now, they have never drunk wine because their ancestor told them not to do that. But as for you, I have spoken to you very many times and you have not obeyed me!

We are not told respecting the performance of this promise; but doubtless it was performed, and travellers say the Rechabites may be found a separate…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 12-19The Lord used the Recabites as a clear contrast to the people of Judah. The Recabites lacked many good things in life, but they stayed obedient.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-19By the obedience of the Rechabites to their father, Jeremiah condemns the disobedience of the Jews to God their Father. The Holy Spirit has arranged Jeremiah's prophecies by the moral rather than the chronological connection. From the history of an event fifteen years before, the Jews, who had brought back their manumitted servants into bondage, are taught how much God loves and rewards obedience, and hates and punishes disobedience. 2. Rechabites--a…Read the comment
