Context of Jeremiah 18:12
10But those people might start to do evil things. They might stop obeying me. Then I would not help them as I had promised to do. 11So now you must speak to the people who live in Jerusalem and in all of Judah. Tell them that the Lord says this: “Listen to me! I will cause great trouble for you. I have decided to punish you. So you must all stop doing the evil things that you have been doing. Change the way that you live and do things that are right.” But they will say, “Do not try to stop us! We will do whatever we want to do. We will continue to do wicked things.” ’ 13So the Lord says this: ‘Go and ask the people of other nations! Have they ever heard about anything as terrible as this? My people, Israel, should have been pure. But they have done a disgusting thing! 14There is always snow on Lebanon's mountains. Cold streams of water always pour down from those high rocks.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 11-17Verses 11-17 Sinners call it liberty to live at large; whereas for a man to be a slave to his lusts, is the very worst slavery. They forsook God for idols. When men are parched with heat, and meet with cooling, refreshing streams, they use them. In these things men will not leave a certainty for an uncertainty; but Israel left the ancient paths appointed by the Divine law.
