Context of Jeremiah 10:22
20But now they have destroyed our tent. They have broken the ropes that held it. Our children have gone, and none of them remain. There is nobody still alive who can help us build our homes again. 21Our leaders are fools. They do not ask the Lord for his advice. So they have failed to take care of us, and all their people have disappeared. Listen! We have heard the news! There is the noise of a great army in the north. It is marching towards us! It is coming to attack the towns of Judah. It will make them heaps of stones. Only wild animals will live in them. 23Lord, I know that nobody controls their own life. Nobody can decide what will happen to them. 24Lord, teach us what is right, but do it carefully. Please do not punish us in your anger. That would be the end of us.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 22The noise of the bruit is come - How this silly French word bruit, which signifies noise, got in here, I cannot imagine. The simple translation is this: "The voice of the report! behold, it is come; yea, great commotion from the land of the north; (Chaldea); to make the cities of Judea a desolation, a habitation of wild beasts." That is, the report we had heard of the projected invasion of Judea by Nebuchadnezzar is confirmed. He has entered the land; the…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 17-25Verses 17-25 The Jews who continued in their own land, felt secure. But, sooner or later, sinners will find all things as the word of God has declared, and that its threatenings are not empty terrors. Submission will support the believer under every grief allotted to him; but what can render the load of Divine vengeance easy to be borne by those who fall under it in sullen despair?
