Context of Isaiah 21:13
11This is a message about Dumah. Someone is shouting to me from Seir. They are asking, ‘Guard, how soon will the night finish? Please tell me.’ 12The guard replies, ‘The morning will come soon. But the night will quickly follow. If you want to ask again, then come back. Come and ask!’ This is a message about Arabia. Traders from Dedan, you put up your tents in Arabia's wilderness. 14You must bring some water for the thirsty people to drink. You people who live in Tema, bring food to give to the hungry people who are running away from danger. 15They are running away from the weapons of war. They are running from the swords, bows and arrows of a dangerous battle.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 13The burden upon Arabia "The oracle concerning Arabia" - This title is of doubtful authority. In the first place, because it is not in many of the MSS. of the Septuagint; it is in MSS. Pachom. and 1. D. 2. only, as far as I can find with certainty. Secondly, from the singularity of the phraseology; for משא massa is generally prefixed to its object without a preposition, as בבל משא massa babel ; and never but in this place with the preposition ב beth…Read the comment
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 13Analysis of Isaiah 21:13-17. - Vision 18. “Arabia.” The remainder of this chapter is occupied with a single prophecy respecting Arabia. It was “probably” delivered about the time that the former was uttered - during the reign of Hezekiah, and before the invasion of Sennacherib. It had reference, I suppose, to Sennacherib; and was designed to foretell the fact that, either in his march to attack Judea, or on his return from Egypt, he would pass through…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 13-17Verses 13-17 The Arabians lived in tents, and kept cattle. A destroying army shall be brought upon them, and make them an easy prey. We know not what straits we may be brought into before we die. Those may know the want of necessary food who now eat bread to the full. Neither the skill of archers, nor the courage of mighty men, can protect from the judgments of God. That is poor glory, which will thus quickly come to nothing. Thus hath the Lord said to…Read the comment
