Context of 2 Samuel 22:40
38I ran after my enemies and I destroyed them. I did not turn back until I had killed them. 39I destroyed them completely. I knocked them down to the ground. They could not get up again. They fell under my feet. You have made me strong to fight battles so that I win against my enemies. 41You caused my enemies to turn their backs, and they ran away from me. I destroyed those who hate me. 42They called out for help, but nobody was there to save them. They called to the Lord, but he did not answer them.
