Context of 2 Kings 18:2
1Ahaz's son Hezekiah became the king of Judah when Elah's son Hoshea had been king of Israel for three years. Hezekiah was 25 years old when he became king. He ruled Judah as king in Jerusalem for 29 years. His mother's name was Abijah. She was the daughter of Zechariah. 3Hezekiah did things that the Lord said were good, as his ancestor King David had done. 4He removed the altars on the hills. He knocked down the stone pillars that people worshipped and he cut down the Asherah poles. He broke into pieces the bronze snake that Moses had made. Until then, the Israelites had burned incense as an offering to it. It was called Nehushtan.

Commentaries on 2 Kings 18:2
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 2Twenty and five years old was he - This statement, combined with that of 2 Kings 16:2, would make it necessary that his father Ahaz should have married at the age of 10, and have had a child born to him when he was 11 years of age. This is not impossible; but its improbability is so great, that most commentators suggest a corruption in some of the numbers. The Zachariah here mentioned was perhaps one of the “faithful witnesses” of Isaiah Isaiah 8:2.Read the comment

Hoshea started his reign in 732 BC, so Hezekiah began around 728 BC at age twelve. When Ahaz died in 715 BC, Hezekiah became the only ruler at age twenty-five. He then ruled for twenty-nine years from 715 to 686 BC.Read the comment

Twenty and five years old--According to this statement (compare 2Ki 16:2), he must have been born when his father Ahaz was no more than eleven years old. Paternity at an age so early is not unprecedented in the warm climates of the south, where the human frame is matured sooner than in our northern regions. But the case admits of solution in a different way. It was customary for the…Read the comment
