28These are the people Nebuchadnezzar deported: in the seventh year, 3,023 Jews; 29in his eighteenth year, 832 people from Jerusalem; in Nebuchadnezzar’s twenty-third year, Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guards, deported 745 Jews. Altogether, 4,600 people were deported. 31On the twenty-fifth day of the twelfth month of the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Judah’s King Jehoiachin, King Evil-merodach of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, pardoned King Jehoiachin of Judah and released him from prison. 32He spoke kindly to him and set his throne above the thrones of the kings who were with him in Babylon.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 24-30Verses 24-30 The leaders of the Jews caused them to err; but now they are, in particular, made monuments of Divine justice. Here is an account of two earlier captivities. This people often were wonders both of judgment and mercy.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 28-30The numbers in these verses add to the information in 2 Kings 24:14–16 about the exile in 597 BC. The deportation in Jeremiah 52:30 is not mentioned elsewhere in the Bible. It was likely a Babylonian response to Gedaliah’s murder (Jeremiah 41:1–3). This suggests that the person or people who made this adaptation lived after 581 BC, probably in Babylon.Read the comment
