Context of Ezekiel 13:16
14I will demolish the wall you plastered with whitewash and knock it to the ground so that its foundation is exposed. The city will fall, and you will be destroyed within it. Then you will know that I am the Lord. 15After I exhaust my wrath against the wall and against those who plaster it with whitewash, I will say to you, “The wall is no more and neither are those who plastered it — those prophets of Israel who prophesied to Jerusalem and saw a vision of peace for her when there was no peace.” This is the declaration of the Lord God.’ 17“Now you, son of man, face the women among your people who prophesy out of their own imagination, and prophesy against them. 18Say, ‘This is what the Lord God says: Woe to the women who sew magic bands on the wrist of every hand and who make veils for the heads of people of every size in order to ensnare lives. Will you ensnare the lives of my people but preserve your own?

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-16Verses 10-16 One false prophet built the wall, set up the notion that Jerusalem should be victorious, and made himself acceptable by it. Others made the matter yet more plausible and promising; they daubed the wall which the first had built; but they would, ere long, be undeceived when their work was beaten down by the storm of God's just wrath; when the Chaldean army desolated the land. Hopes of peace and happiness, not warranted by the word of God, will…Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 10-16The people's "righteousness" was like a weak wall ready to fall. Instead of urging the people to repent and build their wall properly, the false prophets just painted over it. They told the people that peace would come to Jerusalem. This made the wall look stronger than it was. A heavy rainstorm would reveal its true weakness. Water would seep into the unsealed cracks, wash away the mortar, and cause the stones to fall. In this case, the storm would be…Read the comment
