In detail

Mary I is perhaps more commonly known as "Bloody Mary," an epithet she received as a result of her numerous executions of Protestant believers. This reign of terror began to unfold on February 4, 1555, when John Rogers, a Protestant who had assisted in creating an English Bible, was burned alive. Rogers was merely the first of about 300 who would die at the hand of Bloody Mary over the next three years. Anne Boleyn came to power when Mary died on November 17, 1558, and took the name of Queen Elizabeth I (1558—1603).
