In detail

A son of Terah, and brother of Abraham and Nahor. He died in his native city of Ur of the Chaldees, leaving a son, Lot, and two daughters, Milcah and Iscah (Gen 11:26—31). It is uncertain whether the city of Haran (Heb. Charan) is named after him, since the Hebrew spelling of the names is different.
