In detail

In 1516 Desiderius Erasmus published a new translation of the New Testament into Latin. In this same publication, Erasmus provided annotations to the original Greek text. This Greek compilation of the New Testament became the first published edition of the Greek New Testament in history. A second edition was produced in 1519, which had a tremendous influence on Luther's German translation. The third edition was published in 1522.
