A daughter of Jacob by Leah (Gen 30:21). She was violated by Shechem, the son of King Hamor of the city of Shechem, when Jacob's family lived in the area after their return from Haran. For this shameful act, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's full brothers, killed all the males of Shechem and rescued their sister, who had been taken into Shechem's house to become his wife (ch 34). Jacob did not approve of his [sons'] crime (v 30), and denounced it on his deathbed (ch 49:5—7). Of Dinah's later life nothing is known.
