With pity and compassion, with tender yearning, the Lord is looking upon His tempted and tried people. For a time the oppressors will be permitted to triumph over those who know God’s holy commandments. All are given the same opportunity that was granted to the first great rebel to demonstrate the spirit that moves them to action. It is God’s purpose that every one shall be tested and proved, to see whether he will be loyal or disloyal to the laws which govern the kingdom of heaven. To the last God permits Satan to reveal his character as a liar, an accuser, and a murderer. Thus the final trial of His people is made more marked, more glorious, more full and complete. The words of the prophet will then be fulfilled, “The day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come” [Isaiah 63:4]. The song of God’s people will be, “The Lord reigneth; let the people tremble: He sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved. The Lord is great in Zion; and He is high above all the people” [Psalm 99:1, 2].Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 4 (1883 - 1886)

With great solemnity the following words were addressed to you: “The Lord reigneth; let the people tremble; he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved. The Lord is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people. Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy. The king’s strength also loveth judgment; thou dost establish equity, thou executest judgment and righteousness in Jacob. Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.” [Psalm 99:1-5.]Psalms 99:3

“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord....Serve the Lord with gladness:
Come before His presence with singing.
Know ye that the Lord He is God:
It is He that hath made us, and His we are;
We are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise:
Be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.”
“Exalt the Lord our God,

For the Lord our God is holy.” Psalm 100:1-4, margin; Psalm 99:9.

Heaven is a world of order. “Justice and judgment are the habitation of his throne. Mercy and truth go before his face.” [Psalm 89:14.] We are apt to think that we are carrying great loads when we have the satisfaction of knowing that Jesus carries them all for us. “The Lord reigneth, let the people tremble. He sitteth between the cherubims: let the earth be moved. The Lord is great in Zion: and he is high above all the people: let them praise thy great and terrible name for it is holy.” [Psalm 99:1.]
