I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy loving-kindness and for thy truth. Psalm 138:2.

EGWE 244.4

“In Psalm 138:2 are found these words, ‘Thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.’ In Isaiah 42:21, we have the prophecy concerning Christ: ‘The Lord is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.’ An illustration of the principle of how it is magnified is found in Matthew 5:21-26 which verses magnify the sixth commandment, while verses 27-32 magnify the seventh commandment. Itis this principle alone that is a positive proof of inspiration, and any prophet who does not make other scriptures seem broader and more wonderful, does not bear the right kind of fruit.”—S. N. Haskell, quoted in F. C. Gilbert, Divine Predictions Fulfilled, pp. 29-33.

“I will worship toward Thy holy temple, and praise Thy name for Thy lovingkindness and for Thy truth: for Thou hast magnified Thy truth above all Thy name. In the day that I cried Thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul. All the kings of the earth shall praise Thee, O Lord, when they hear the words of Thy mouth. Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the Lord; for great is the glory of the Lord. Though the Lord be high, yet hath He respect unto the lowly: but the proud He knoweth afar off. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, Thou wilt revive me; Thou shalt stretch forth Thine hands against the wrath of Thine enemies, and Thy right hand shall save me. The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: Thy mercy, O Lord, endureth forever: forsake not the work of Thine own hands.” [Psalm 138:2-8.]

“Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.” [James 4:8.] “Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, and waiting at the posts of my doors.” [Proverbs 8:34.] “He giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might He increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall; but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and shall not faint.” [Isaiah 40:29-31.] “In the day that I called He answered me, and strengthened me with strength in my soul.” [Psalm 138:3.]

That I May Know Him

A Heavenly Partnership, April 27

TMK 123.3

“Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.” “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise” (Psalm 138:6; 51:17). Those who reveal the meek and lowly spirit of Christ are tenderly regarded by God. Nothing is unnoticed by Him. He marks their self-denial, their effort to uplift Christ before the world. Though these humble workers may be looked upon with scorn by the world, they are of great value in the sight of God. Not only the wise, the great, the beneficent, will gain a passport into the heavenly courts—not only the busy worker, full of zeal and restless activity. No; the pure in heart, in whose lips there is found no guile; the poor in spirit, who are actuated by the Spirit of an abiding Christ; the peacemaker, whose highest ambition is to do God’s will—these will gain an abundant entrance. They are God’s jewels, and will be among that number of whom John writes, “I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, ... saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth” (Revelation 19:6). They have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. “Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them” (Revelation 7:15).40Ibid.

“Though the Lord be high, yet hath He respect unto the lowly.” (Psalm 138:6.) Those who reveal the meek and lowly spirit of Christ are tenderly regarded by God. The poor, the unfortunate, the sick and the suffering are in the world to test the character of human beings. If the love of Christ is in the heart, His followers will be loved, in whatever position in life they may be. Living in daily communion with God, we shall learn to place God’s estimate upon men; we shall learn to respect and honor those whom God respects and honors. Isaiah 57:15; Psalm 51:16, 17; 138:6; Isaiah 66:2. “But unto this man will I seek, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.”

We should cherish gratitude of heart all the days of our life because the Lord has put on record these words: “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” [Isaiah 57:15.] The reconciliation of God to man, and man to God, is sure when certain conditions are met. The Lord says, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” [Psalm 51:17.] Again He says, “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” [Psalm 34:18.] “Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.” [Psalm 138:6.]

A daily converted man is a vessel unto honor. He keeps the Lord’s will ever before him. His constant aim and object is to serve God, and the Lord marks the sincere desire to serve Him. Let the cry go forth from unfeigned lips, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my reins, and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” [Psalm 139:23, 24.] “Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly, but the proud he knoweth afar off.” “The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth forever. Forsake not the work of thy hands.” [Psalm 138:6, 8.]
