“In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.” [Isaiah 30:15.] Take this with you throughout the year. The strength of every soul is in God and not in man. Quietness and confidence is to be the strength of all who give their hearts to God. Christ has not a casual interest in us but an interest stronger than a mother for her child. Says the prophet, “Can a woman forget her sucking child? ... yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.” [Isaiah 49:15.] Our Saviour has purchased us by human suffering and sorrow, by insult, reproach, abuse, mockery, rejection, and death. He is watching over you, trembling child of God. He will make you secure under His protection. Through His servant He says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” [Isaiah 26:3.] “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” “They that wait on the Lord shall be as Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abideth forever.” [Psalm 27:14; 125:1.]

They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people from henceforth even for ever. Psalm 125:1, 2.

Let songs pour forth from lips that the live coal from off the altar has touched. Lift up your voices in the words of the one hundred and twenty-first, one hundred and twenty-fifth, and one hundred and twenty-sixth psalms. The angelic host will join with those who sing with the spirit and with the understanding also.

Our first camp meeting in Tasmania was held in Hobart, November 28 to December 9. It was located just opposite the Newtown Post Office, two miles from the center of Hobart. We were much pleased with the campground. It was elevated considerably above the surrounding streets and was reached by a flight of steps. A hawthorn hedge shut in the enclosure, so that the encampment was hidden until we reached the entrance. Then the white tents, in their orderly arrangement in that grassy retreat, were an attractive sight. Hobart is surrounded by hills, rising one above another, and stretching away in[to] the distance. Often they brought to our minds those precious words, “As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about his people, from henceforth even forever.” [Psalm 125:2.]

The Jewish nation had been tested and proved. For two thousand years the covenant with Jacob had been preserved. For more than a thousand years the nation had been granted every favor from the Lord that would call forth their gratitude and cause them to sense their obligation to Him. But they had sought their own selfish interests, their own glory. Their religion was peculiar. The moral law was kept ever before them. The Sabbath was to be observed by them as the memorial of creation. The moral principles of government were in every respect superior to the principles which controlled other nations. The vineyard was hedged in by sea and mountains. “I, saith the Lord, will be a wall of fire round about.” [Zechariah 2:5.] “As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so is the Lord round about his people.” [Psalm 125:2.] Every facility in richest abundance was furnished them, that they might become all that the Lord designed they should be.

16LtMs, Lt 69, 1901, par. 14

“All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits. Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. ... Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished. By mercy and truth iniquity is purged, and by the fear of the Lord men depart from iniquity. When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” [Proverbs 16:2, 3, 5-7.] “Do good, O Lord, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in heart. As for such as turn aside to their crooked ways, the Lord shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity; but peace shall be upon Israel.” [Psalm 125:4, 5.]
