“The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, Thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever. The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.” [Psalm 12:1-8.]

Psalms 12:2-4

Have you realized that there was a witness at your side continually, as there was at the feast of Belshazzar when the bloodless hand traced his condemnation on the wall of the palace? Every time you have made a false statement, every time you have misrepresented your brethren, the witness at your side has traced your words in the books of record, and your deeds in the judgment will appear in their true character. The Psalmist describes those who pursue the course you have in these words, “They speak every one with his neighbor: with flattering lips, and with double tongue, they speak. The Lord will cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things: who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?” [Psalm 12:2-4.]

This parable places before us a Christlike character in contrast with character of the unjust judge. Those who fear God and accept Christ as their personal Saviour will reveal a Christlike character. The character of God will speak through them, in vindication of righteousness. From this parable God would have us learn to respect the cause of the poor. “Ye shall not respect persons in judgment,” He declares, “but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s.” [Deuteronomy 1:17.] “He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Master, but he that honoreth him hath mercy on the poor.” [Proverbs 14:31.] This is the lesson we are to learn from the parable of the unjust judge. The presentation of a man as a judge, who feared not God neither regarded man, is an admonition to all who claim to be righteous. “For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise.” [Psalm 12:5.] “Wherefore turn thou to thy God, and keep mercy, and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.” [Hosea 12:6.]

Chapter 80—Reverence for That Which Is Holy

CG 538.6

His Word Is Sacred—We should reverence God’s Word. For the printed volume we should show respect, never putting it to common uses or handling it carelessly. And never should Scripture be quoted in a jest or paraphrased to point a witty saying. “Every word of God is pure”; “as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.” (Proverbs 30:5; Psalm 12:6).5Education, 244.

In developing the work of our sanitariums, our schools, or any other branch of the cause of God, the workers need to place their entire dependence upon the wisdom that cometh from above. When God’s Word is carefully studied, and its requirements clearly understood, right principles will be brought into every transaction. “The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.” [Psalm 12:6.] There will be no deviating from the truth in word or action. The words spoken will be like “apples of gold in pictures of silver.” [Proverbs 25:11.]

“The testimony of every true prophet will agree with the testimony of the prophets of God before him, and it may be a further development of the same truth uttered by them. The words of God are definite and pure, ‘as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever.” Psalm 12:6, 7. The words of God are represented as being refined; ‘As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried’ (refined, margin). Psalm 18:30. In Psalm 119:140, we find it spoken of as being ‘very pure’ (refined, margin)....

This will be the experience of the sons and daughters of God who receive and believe in Christ as their Redeemer. What does the world’s Redeemer say? “The words of the Lord are as pure words; as silver tried in a furnace of earth purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever.” [Psalm 12:6, 7.] The children of Christ heed the words, “Watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation.” [Matthew 26:41.]
