Read Proverbs 14 in the BibleProverbs 14:30
Health of the heart.
As soundness of the heart conserveth the rest of the same body in life, [1] so a pure intention often excuseth from mortal sin, as in errors committed of probable, not of gross, nor affected ignorance. [2] But secret envy in the heart infecteth and putrefieth man's actions, and destroyeth the work that seemed good: which can no more endure strict examination in the day of judgement, than a rotten cloth can abide washing.
- 1 Sincere intention excuseth some errors.
- 2 2. Greg. li. 5. c. 34. Moral.

Proverbs 14:12
A way which seemeth just.
◦ If any Jews, Turks, or Heretics lead a moral good life in this world, it seemeth both to themselves, and to other rude people, that they are in a right way of salvation, but their error in faith leadeth them to eternal damnation.
